aging, Gentleness

A Beautiful Life

We are bombarded with ads everywhere promoting a more youthful appearance, how to reduce fine lines and wrinkles, and how to stop aging. It’s sad really that we feel this way.

My daughter is 12 and she often expresses with complete JOY how cute she thinks old people are. In fact, she often calls them adorable! I feel the same and I love that the youth of the world think so too!

I often people watch in places like airports and on airplanes and I am just in awe at the beauty and grace all around me in the form of aging bodies that contain souls and minds full of wisdom and life. I marvel just as much at them as I do at the brand new babies, maybe more so!

The word that often comes to mind, when I encounter this beauty, is ‘gentleness’ and I think the world needs more gentleness now …. don’t you?

What if we spent the precious time that we do have in our days focusing on shining eyes and beautiful souls, rather than trying to stop the grace that presents itself in the process of aging and in all of its glory?

Do I get caught off guard at times when I look at my own reflection in the mirror? Yes, but now I try to smile back at myself and look into my own eyes, knowing that all is perfect, and every stage in life has its beauty. We often say there are ages and stages when it comes to raising kids, but there are also ages and stages to aging. The more we can accept all of these stages, with grace, the gentler the process and the more we can see the beauty.

I encourage everyone to look for the beauty, to love the ages and stages, and to remember that at the end of our lives it’s not about the wrinkles, but about who we loved, who loved us, and the moments that mattered along the way…….

“Life is a series of thousands of tiny miracles, notice them.”

What You Seeks Seeks YOU!

diamond headred

I was having a text messaging conversation with a coaching client this morning and the topic of being grateful came up. I thought voila, here is my blog post for today.

Many of us struggle with making the shift from ‘waiting for the axe to fall’, which tricks us into not being in a state of grace and gratitude, to fulling embracing the gift of having and being in gratitude and grace.

Gratitude is a state of being, an energetic force that has enormous potential. I thought I would share what my client said to me and what I shared back because I am sure that we can all relate to this, either now or at some point in our lives.

Client: “Yah it’s deeply tied into disappointment for me and not getting what I want. Don’t think about it, acknowledge it, or dream about it and then you’ll never get hurt”.

Me: “Ya, that’s one of the classic self-sabotages of all time, the old waiting for the axe to fall 😊

Our conversation went on and I shared about ways, like this, that we give our power away to outside sources and this is definitely one of them. I reminded my client that what we seek, seeks us and what we love, loves us. Gratitude is just like that. Being grateful puts that attracting/seeking/aligning energy out there so that we can attract more of what we desire. When we love our life it can truly loves us back and bring us more of that which we love! 😊 This is so exciting and the awesome thing is there is always, always, something to be grateful for. Gratitude is a like a muscle, the more we use it, the easier it gets and the bigger it gets. Bring on the GRATITUDE muscle!!

I am sitting here in Hawaii, typing this, the sun is shining on my face, the wind is gently blowing and toying with my hair, and as I look up I see Diamond Head. Diamond Head Crater is an absolutely beautiful site on the island of Oahu. It sits majestically above the shores of Waikiki, overlooking the Pacific Ocean, and is a destination for many who visit the island and those who live there as well.

Now you might say that sure it’s easy for you Maggie you are in Hawaii and I am wherever you are today at work, I’m sick, I got a flat tire today, or what have you. Yes, I am in a beautiful spot right now making gratitude flow extra easy today, however, I am also finding gratitude in the simple things like the pillow I found to put under my laptop, the lemon I found at the ABC store around the corner, for my warm lemon water, the fact that there are ABC stores on every corner lol, that I am inspired to write this morning, and on and on it goes. There are so many things we can find to be grateful for and when we do, it shifts our frequency to a state of appreciation and love. With appreciation and love comes kindness to oneself and the world, so if nothing else do it for the team. 😊

Feel Your Way to Freedom

Focus

Feelings are our road to recovery, our road to peace and well-being. When we are in a space of quiet despair or unrest, we can use our feelings to guide us back to peace and even to hopefulness.

By drawing our attention and intention to thoughts that center around gratitude and love, we can tip the scales from fear to love, or to peace within. If we stopped to truly contemplate the compilation of life’s moments that comprise a lifetime, I am sure we would desire that the moments consisted of harmonious energies and thoughts that served our highest good, verses those that were negative and self-destructive. I am sure at the end of our lives we would wonder why we wasted one precious second or moment in a fear based space.

It is not always easy to love ourselves fully in every moment, but the more we shift our focus to the feelings of gratitude and well-being, the easier it becomes.

The other thing that happens is we develop a deeper compassion and understanding for others travelling along on this earthly journey. Judgement of ourselves and others is a barrier to freedom and to peace of mind. Try taking just one moment now to release yourself from self condemnation or self-judgement. Have compassion for yourself and in turn you cast compassion on others.

We are all doing the best we can and learning and growing as we go. We all have slips and falls and brush ourselves off and get back up again.

I wish everyone, including myself, the freedom to let go of self defeating thoughts, memories, regrets, should haves, should have nots, and to move through the tunnel of love and towards self acceptance.

Let us all experience more moments of beauty, grace, and love in this orchestra of life expressing itself through us.
