On Laughther, Life, and The Human Spirit’s Ability to Prevail

pinky promise

Today I went for lunch with a long time friend of mine, Marj, and although we don’t see each other often, it is always an instant and heartfelt connection when we do.

Today, was a delightful lunch and we laughed very hard throughout the lunch.  In fact, we laughed several times until the point of tears. We talked about funny memories that we had from a place we both worked at in the past, we talked about sickness, life, and even death.

After I left my lunch, I realized how good it was seeing my good friend and it was extra good because we laughed so hard. It was one of those lunches where you were really glad that you had the experience. When I got into my car, I thought to myself, that I was going to let my friend know how much I enjoyed it when it hit me…..

Wow, here was my friend who has just lost her husband a few short months ago and who also JUST found out that she has breast cancer and here we were laughing and laughing and I was leaving there feeling uplifted? How could this be? In was then that I realized how amazing my friend is and how resilient the human spirit is.

To my friend, you are amazing and you inspire me with your strength, kindness, compassion, joy for life, wisdom, and your amazing resilience to triumph and blaze through some of the most difficult challenges of life. I am sure we could all agree that in life, it’s not a matter of ‘if we will go through hardships’, but when and you my friend have risen to the occasion. I know that you have felt deep pain and loss, and that you are probably scared,  but to see you able to laugh and carry on is a gift to me and the world.

Keep being you. I love you my friend!
